Applauding the Excellent PR surrounding the Fall/Winter 2010 collection of Hakaan, 37-year-old, formerly obscure, now world famous, Istanbul and London-based designer, awarded First Prize at the Young Fashion Designers Contest organized by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporter Associations while still at university, recently discovered by Mert Alas, one half of top photo duo Matt & Marcus. Presented on Friday, February 19, 2010, Day 1 of London Fashion Week, the show was styled by Edward Enninful of American Vogue, with looks worn by supermodels Lara Stone, Natalia Vodianova, Natasha Poly, Rose Cordero, and Anje Rubik, and attended by Kate Moss and Carine Roiffeld of Vogue Paris, who flew direct from New York Fashion Week just for the occasion, which featured, according the Elle UK, “bottom-skimming wool bandage dresses, ostrich-feathered skirts and lots of ways with leather; from ribbed trousers to slashed coats, all in a limited palette of white, black and camel.” Says Rifat Ozbek, legendary Turkish designer, who witnessed (and was instantly impressed by) that winning student show of Hakaan (last name Yildirim) : “A new star is born.” Full collection slideshow at ELLEUK.com.
